The material quality on the new cladding isn't bad; but I don't feel it offers sufficient compliment or contrast to the existing brick, it very much feels grafted on to the existing building. (which it is, but one might hope for a better illusion)

I do hope they:

a) get rid of the odd windows in the unit facing the plaza.

b) spruce up the plaza some.....it's really rather forlorn looking.

This seems to be an ongoing Toronto issue where there is a real detachment between the (historic) building above and what the commercial component in the base seems to think is best at that moment in time. Upgrades should be encouraged, especially for retail components, but the disconnect is so pervasive.

As a side note, 2 very visible trees and a better illustration of the difference planting conditions make would be hard to find. One very healthy tree in the large open trench, one not-so-healthy tree in the much smaller pit.

It’s also a great example of how trees and flowers make the streets look so much better. regardless of the surrounding architecture. And some cities DO have trees planted along every street. Toronto is just not good at that even though it’s getting a little better. Yonge needs it desperately.
