Condo Life Mag Profile

th_48660_1155_20_122_487lo.jpg

Blossom is much more than just a single building - it is a masterplanned commmunity that unfolds as one enters the residence through a grand central courtyard. A 3-storey podium level encompasses the whole of the community, finished in warm brick, large picture windows and pre-cast banding, offering a street-friendly curb-appeal. Above it, three gracious glass and pre-cast towers will rise - and at street level there will also be a limited collection of charming 2-storey townhomes.

- grand main lobby at corner of Progess and Sheppard
- mention of planned LRT station at corner of Markham and Sheppard

Looks like this project is a complex for the most of that block.

Also mention of...
Liv Condominium Residences by Ballantry Homes
Markham Rd. & Sheppard Ave.
Starting from $139,990

translation of forward looking statements:

Blossom is a(nother tedious) masterplanned (by idiots!) commmunity that unfolds as one enters the residence through a (boring) central courtyard. A 3-storey (suburban tedious) podium level encompasses the whole of the (cold unfriendly boring) community, finished in (fake?) brick, large (dirty?) windows and pre-cast (cheapouts,) offering a (street-destroying yawn.) Above it, three glass and pre-cast towers will rise - and at street level there will also be a limited collection of (inappropriate and anti-urban) 2-storey townhomes.

- lobby at corner of (Un-Progess-ive and Chris? Sheppard
- mention of (never-gonna-happen) LRT station at corner of Markham and Sheppard

This area is one of the better suburban crossroads. There's are lot of employment in the immediate area, the retail plaza anchored by a Food Basics, services like the Burrows Hall library and community centre as well as the Chinese Cultural centre.

This development is of the appropriate scale and type for the site. Higher densities relative to the immediate surrounding area are strategically concentrated at the Markham and Sheppard intersection. The proposed project consists of multiple dwelling townhouses and larger midrise buildings that provide the same density that a point tower complex coupled with excessive landscaping would achieve. The scale of this development respects the surrounding area and maximizes to a reasonable extent the potential residential density.

Obviously it would be preferred if this site would remain as a future employment area but the reality is the market conditions haven't existed for nearly 2 decades to support this type of activity at Markham and Sheppard.

August 22 2009 update

Blossom Condominium is clearly not blossoming this summer (the sales office has been vacated ;))

I thought this would have been a great proposal for the area ... its really too bad this project fell through ~ Here's the original marketing brochure that was released for real estate broker's preview back in December 2007 ~

This 3 building complex was designed by E.I. Richmond Architects Ltd., if that still matters ~

MODs ... for the record :)

Blossom Condominiums (Sheppard & Markham Rd, Ballantry, 19 + 14 +9s, E.I. Richmond)

The marketing website no longer is functional and instead redirects to the builder's (Ballantry Homes) main website ... so much for Ballantry's first venture into high-rise developments

Seems like Ballantry hasn't given up on this site .... after the Blossom Condominiums project fell through, it sounds like it is being relaunched as a 'collection of urban townhomes' ... that probably means back-to-back towns with underground parking, just like the 'Markham Gardens' development abutting to the south
