thanks a lot for sharing these pics! I cant see the thumbnails for some reason but I can click on them luckily. I've always loved Chicago though I have only been there once way back in 1996. Really need to go again. I see quite a few significant additions to the skyline. I'm not a huge fan of 311 S. Wacker, though I often use it as a point of reference because as I recall it is similar height to FCP in Toronto. Just shows how much taller Chicago is...

I'm not a fan of that gimmicky glass ledge thing either...

/\ thats strange......... there working for me.

i remember a couble years ago on all the skyscraper page and city forums there was always chicago vs toronto threads and i used to think if toronto had only a couple more major tower over 300 meters, toronto could beat chicago......... but now that i've been there to see it in person there is realy no contest. Chicago beats toronto in density and hight. but toronto definatly has a longer line of buildings as when your outside the downtown in chicago there is really nothing there.

I love the Lake Point Tower. It looks so ahead of its time with its rounded glass facade, and is definitely bolstered by its connection to Mies van der Rohe. The height matches the architecture's potency at 70 storeys.

Build-up's Chicago pics...

BU: Good pics from Chicago here-I want to mention these:
1-The two old buildings on the Chicago River pictured are the Wrigley and the Chicago Tribune buildings left to right.
2-I remember the Chase Building by its original name: The First National Bank of Chicago Building-built back around 1970.

Lake Point Tower is pretty cool. Because of its location and curved shape, it is the only building in Chicago where every apartment has a view of Lake Michigan.

I find the tour guide's claim that Lake Point Tower was built on rubble from the Chicago Fire to be a little dubious because:

1) Another tour guide (for a double-decker bus tour) said that the debris from the 1871 Chicago Fire was used to fill in the lakefront of what is now Grant Park. This makes sense because the debris had to have gone somewhere in order for Chicago to rebuild so quickly.

2) While Lake Point Tower is built on top of lakefill, it seems hard to believe that Chicago would have kept such a large amount of debris handy for almost a century. The rubble would have been disposed of long before Lake Point Tower was even conceptualized.

Nice pics!

If the Toronto VS Chicago debate centered around height and density we have a lot of ignorant people on this forum.

Even if you haven't been there (I have a few times now) it should be clear from these pictures there's no competition whatsoever.

I'm not sure about density - density of tall buildings sure, buildings in general it's similar in some areas - the difference being Chicago has more of it.

I still miss Toronto when I go to Chicago, so we must be doing something right :) not sure what though :p
