What are you referring to? Perhaps it's the office towers, some of which are very PoMo and look out of place in the main downtown area.

I've been told you can see Calgary from about 80 miles from the rocky mountains on a clear day.

I use to live in Calgary and indeed - you can see the core from very far out. And some very nice pictures - the Bow is gonna be one impressive 'scraper.
