thought this was kinda cool, different angle. from the flames broadcast.
looks like Sportsnet just outted themsleves....that view is from atleast 2 years ago
Well the reality is, the most iconic part of the building, the roof, is the least practical and fastest to fail. Them "not giving a crap" is probably saving us citizens from ourselves, in throwing good money after bad to retain it. You also can't just remove the roof and slap a new one on. That roof design, unfort, was never a good idea and thus hasn't been done sinceI would like to produce a preliminary design of this at some point, but I think it would be awesome if they retained as much of the original building as possible. Obviously they probably have to tear down the roof, but they could keep the main structure and replace the roof with a membrane structure that follows the shape of the original. They could totally gut it and make it an outdoor venue, or they could keep it indoors. Regardless, I think there are possibilities for it to be reused as a part of stampede.
Will they? Of course not. They don't give a crap about preserving an iconic building or making stampede "park" anything more than a giant concrete wasteland in the middle of our CBD.
The Rivers plan clearly calls for street facing development on the west and north sides of the site, and then flex space behind it....so both things are true, which is a reasonable solution where everybody wins. Stampede can expand, but 365 traffic is enhancedA big blank concrete pad from what I saw from CMLC a couple years ago.
Space for Stampede midway expansion.
Cautionary tale for sure. The Saddledome issue seems to have been contractually dealt with better than Rexall, especially given the land swap with stampede. Everyone has a vested interested to have it removed as soon as possible. Would imagine, given the previous renovations and flooding, built in the 80's....the amount of hazardous material is likely very low
Sorry, what I was trying understand was if I’m going to a game or concert, are there underground parking spots or is the underground parkade strictly for players/personnel?Certainly there is no internal connection between the parkade and community arena lobby, a person would need to use stairs and then exit, and re-enter off plaza. Would assume those Saddledome A&B lots across the street become the primary community rinks lots on non flames/concert nights
There's a public parking garageSorry, what I was trying understand was if I’m going to a game or concert, are there underground parking spots or is the underground parkade strictly for players/personnel?
Well the underground component is likely just for staff/players, but the entire above ground portion would be for club/suite/public.Sorry, what I was trying understand was if I’m going to a game or concert, are there underground parking spots or is the underground parkade strictly for players/personnel?
I'd somewhat disagree, they've never turned people away for admission, and using that much extra land doesn't necessarily increase attendance that amount. Whereas, like the Rivers Plan clearly illustrates, they can do both. Develop the street facing components which earn you revenue all year, and utilize the back areas for extra programming space during the event and parking during Scotia events. The Saddledome lands allow for a 1/3 increase in space to the Stampede Grounds that's already roughly reached its maximum occupancy. There's no way they're developing that land when it allows more people to enter during the 10 day event.
very interesting....especially seeing what the Saddledome looked like pre-renovation....as all those change rooms no longer existI thought about comparing the drawings of the Saddledome that were posted here a while back with Scotia Place. These two images are at the same scale on the event level. The first is of the Saddledome's east side and the second is of Scotia Place's south side.

I'm not sure what changed exactly on the event level as I thought the 90s reno mostly touched the mezzanine level but I know at least the Flames change room and the visitors change room has stayed the same through renovations.Well the underground component is likely just for staff/players, but the entire above ground portion would be for club/suite/public.

yah it 100% was renovated during the 90's, and probably again in the late 2000's...was down there maybe 5-6 years ago....looks nothing like that drawing nowI'm not sure what changed exactly on the event level as I thought the 90s reno mostly touched the mezzanine level but I know at least the Flames change room and the visitors change room has stayed the same through renovations.
