Ceraclad.
I was wondering myself. I thought maybe a cement fiber board, but touching it, it felt lighter. I haven't heard of Ceraclad before, but I like the pattern on this one, definitely nicer than the usual easy trim flat panels or hardie board siding. Their wood grained paneling, the 'I can't believe it's not wood' variety is probably the closest looking to a real wood product.

Is there a reason why they need that? considering there's fire connection 20ft away on the side of the building

The Hydrant is the supply of water for the connection on the building.
It's too bad the hydrant couldn't have been moved a couple of feet to the right.
