Not in that session. I did a quick Google and he seems to be opposed to bus stop consolidation and concentrating service in select corridors.
Which likely affects his ward (but also many other wards) by eliminating the smaller bus routes. However, since they already have the LRT, there won't be much increased service with the PTN. Whereas a primarily bus serviced community would see elimination of smaller routes but also much higher frequency on main routes.

Victoria Park Station update, moving along pretty well. Off topic: Walking around the BMO, I think a lot of people from the Red Line will actually go through the alley between the last BMO Hall and the Casino to access the Events Centre. Would be very cool to see them have an idea about how to activate that little strip. The Rally in the Alley!

Fall 2023 Calgary Transit Service Update available:
https://www.calgarytransit.com/news/fall-service-changes-2023.html?redirect=/fall2023

Right off the bat - I think someone is listening to us. The change log is more informed now and highlights increases/decreases in service! A bunch of minor changes, many service increases through adding the school services back in plus incremental improvements throughout. Seems a notably positive update.

  • MAX Orange is incrementally starting to evolve to how it was planned - frequent, all day service. Every 11 - 12 minutes is one of the best mid-day service frequencies in the whole network now.
  • More incremental LRT improvements too. I believe the Red and Blue Lines are currently 15 minutes on weekend service.

Red Line - Somerset - Bridlewood/ TuscanyWeekend service frequency has been improved to every 10 minutes until 9 p.m.
Blue Line - Saddletowne - 69 StreetWeekend all-day service frequency has been improved to every 13 minutes.
MAX Orange - Brentwood / SaddletowneWeekday peak service frequency has been improved to every 8.5 minutes, every 11-12 minutes mid-day, and every 20-30 minutes in the evenings.

Also of note: scheduled routes are replacing West On Demand in the 69 Street area.

I think I'm not clear on RouteAhead. I thought it was partly about new BRT lines, a streetcar on 37 St SW, airport transit, LRT extensions, etc. But this funding appears to just be bus service improvements?

Baseline - we built out BRT without the operating side. This is walking before we 'run'. Frequency first, we don't need any infrastructure if the route isn't at 10 minute frequencies.

That's a lot of operating hours - would yield a very noticeable difference in service quality in many areas. Rough guess-timate that's about a 50% increase from current service level over the next 10 years?

Assuming they stick to the network principles and concentrate that investment on key corridors, that's the kind of change that would regularly hit the frequencies/ridership we see on Centre Street, but on a whole set of new corridors, MAX routes, and probably some others which have never dabbled with anything close to the 10 minute all-day standard in Calgary's history. That would be huge if they pull it off and progressively add service.

The main takeaway for me - and Centre is the case study for this, but also MAX Orange progressive growth in ridership - is that those additional service levels would lead to a substantial growth in ridership, especially for areas that have poor services that cap corridor potential. We could be looking at a far more transit-oriented city in 2034 all over the place.

A lack of reliable bus service pushed me into biking to work; I use to ride the 7 from Garrison Woods. I've enjoyed biking a lot but some days I'd like the option to take the bus. Knowing I'd only be at a stop for 10 minutes would be a huge factor is getting me back on the bus.

If you're talking about the LRT system, we've been keeping it in good repair the whole time. All of the stations from the 80s have been refurbished.

I am talking about the signal/comms system, traction power substations, OCS pole foundations, missing ground wires, underground ductbanks, road salts along Crowchild contaminating wayside devices on the NW line, etc, etc. There are many elements beyond just the passenger platforms.
Especially bits of the red line could use some more work, reliability isn't super lately
We don't wanna end up like Chicago with slow zones everywhere or the MBTA with shit jumping the tracks (which a red line train recently did!)
