I'm continually surprised at how investment keeps going despite the economy. One thing that does appear to be happening is rental units are getting rented. Not at lightning speed, but it's happening. I was talking to the folks at Versus, and they are filling units.
I love renting in this city right now. All this new stock plus above-average vacancy has made renting here the past year enjoyable and affordable for the first time in my adult life. It's been nice saying goodbye to a decade of 5 - 20% annual increases in rent.

The new stock offers some different floor plates and designs that are badly needed in the traditional 1970s-style apartment block layouts.

Couldn't agree more.

A lot of the investment is coming from places that isn't tied to the local economy. It's a driving force for even locally backed projects like this.

Rental housing has been in short supply for decades across Canada including Calgary. The hard part has always been getting investors to build towers.

Not much to see right now, but here's the construction gear. Only one driller right now.

I'm so happy this is going through!

We all are Oddball. After the last downturn a few years back, when all of the projects stalled or we're shelved all together, it's surprising to see so many projects going ahead. Great to see investors, still having confidence in Calgary.

The West End really needs some quality, urban architecture over more inward facing, fancy themed complexes. I'm indifferent whether this gets built or stalls out.

Is there any information about the design, unit count etc.? I reached out to the developer directly but I didn't have any luck.
