It's fundamentally too wide and while improvements can be made, it's far from an ideal cross-section for a really good public realm.

104st, RHW much better, even 124st to be honest.
To me the width just gives us more room to use. We don’t have to choose between bus lanes, wider side walks, and large enough tree boulevards… we can have all of that. It does suck for the street’s frontage being so far apart, but in terms of what can be done with the public realm, there’s so much opportunity

Why can't 102 Avenue be closed to traffic and look like this?

Cars are the only thing stopping us!! /s

I'm not so sure that's true.

I'd say that it is a wee bit more complex than that given 'our habits' and 'preferences', let alone cross sections.

I've been thinking about this more and more, and as I think about it I think we have to really start changing our thoughts about traffic on some of our busy streets.
One road that's been talked about again and again is Whyte Ave. I think despite current and future opposition, Whyte ave from at least 99st. to 109st should be reconfigured to 1 lane bike, 1 lane car and 1 lane tram/LRT. Especially now with speed limits on Whyte a whole lot slower the ave is less and less a fast way to get east/west.
