Thanks for the excellent tour of Chicago. My wife and I visited last spring/summer and I recognize a lot of the locations you captured.

My wife and I had a great time exploring their attractions, seeing the sights, and general urban vibe. I think Chicago is still not top of mind for a lot of people when they're creating vacation plans, which is unfortunate. I've heard a few people say "why would you want to go to Chicago?", which reminds me of the branding issue Toronto experiences.

You didn't want this thread to dissolve into a Toronto v. Chicago discussion, which I can appreciate. However, I will mention that while in the city I also saw some things that made me ask "why can't we do this". Notable examples include the beach front north of the Chicago river and the general street scape. I tried not to swoon over the older architecture as I recognize the old styles are unlikely to come back and there's no purpose comparing our pre-1940's building stock v. theirs.

Oh, did you know Richard M. Daley is Chicago's mayor?
Just a fun fact not many people are aware of.

That Aqua building was really impressive.

the use of the balaconies .. wow.

probably realitively cheap to create that look as well.

where abouts, specifically, is that? How new is it? I wish i had have noticed it when i was for the August long weekend in '08.

It's very impressive and crazy tall (83 floors). I'm not sure how you could have missed it if you were in or near Millenium Park.
