I think high speed rail would be a game changer. There are already professionals who live here who commute to jobs in Edmonton, and we have well-paying professional positions that are difficult to fill. Opening Edmonton and Calgary's job market - through high speed rail - more widely to people who live in central Alberta would completely change the complexion of our city.

That said, I'm not sure the Edmonton-Calgary corridor has a large enough population to sustain more than 'fastish' rail, which would be awesome but not a game changer for potential commuters in this corridor.

Hi folks, I have a few updates regarding construction here in Red Deer. On the lates is progress on construction of the new Centre for Excellence/Advocacy Centre, currently well along on the Red Deer Polytechnique campus:

And, evidence of what appears to be an insane politicisation of the hospital expansion:

And follow-up announcement that plans from Alberta Health Services and Alberta Infrastructure will be released shortly:

Actually I think if HSR is added and Red Deer is the stop in the middle I could see potentially people moving to Red Deer as a more affordable housing option and commuting to work to Edmonton or Calgary each day.
Since it's likely to be a P3 or P4 and will not be publicly funded the ticket prices wont be cheap. But maybe it should be publicly funded and not cost anyone a dime to ride. Imagine how innovative that would be and send a message to the world about how environmentally friendly we are in Alberta. I hope the nuclear reactors are up and running to power the HSR or how will this be powered?

Well I don't know how these buildings are currently affecting the community but I'm reminded that "see, it's not only Edmonton that levels building with no real plans for the future"
The Buffalo Hotel looks like a building, or at least a facade that should be preserved.
