Puts Commonwealth to shame. What a great thing for Ottawa football fans.

I still really like our stadium's location. Great options to take transit or active transportation and close to dt. When I went to Canada Soccer games, I just opted to walk home in Wihkwentowin and it didn't take that long. Still something special about being a spectator but maybe more nostalgia since I've been going to it for 40+ years.

Great rec centre attached to it and additonal sports field, too, along with increased density only 400m away.

For out of towners, easy to stay dt and get to it in minutes.

Cross posting with the events thread.

Looks like Commonwealth will be hosting a friendly in the lead up to the World Cup. Canada vs. Uzbekistan .

This is great. Uzbek, isn't a powerhouse, but they're much better than the countries we used to play against like the Cayman Islands.

Agreed. I will definitely be attending. Ticket prices better br reasonable.

I wonder if we can get a sellout.

Uzbekistan is ranked 50th. Edmonton last saw Canada play Costa Rica (49th) and Mexico (15th). So Canada is certainly the big draw here, but the fact that it's a world cup warm-up should be enough of a draw for most sports fans.

Kenny making demands on the bid, that were detached from reality, was the primary reason we were overlooked. This is largely agreed upon and was vocalized the minuet the GOA put on the conditions.

I spoke to a councillor on the bid committee and Soccer Canada brought Vancouver back even though they originally rejected joining - it was kind of understood then our chances would be significantly impacted.
No doubt GOA didn't help. But Soccer Canada wanted Toronto and Vancouver.

I don’t think Edmonton has the infrastructure to host more than a couple games, which would not have made up for the costs around hosting. A great as it would have been it wasn’t meant to be.
