Yeah that's pretty unacceptable. I'd never in my right mind live in a building whose units are separated by drywall; I actually couldn't, because I like my loud stereos for all my music and movies.

Concerns over crane toppling at downtown construction site
Web Staff, cp24.com

There are concerns a crane may topple at a construction site in the Sumach and King Streets area of the downtown core on Monday morning.

A number of emergency officials continue to secure the scene as they work to ensure everyone in the area remains safe.

Rescue officials were first called to the site after it was reported that the crane operator was trapped in the machine, and that it might be unstable.

Toronto Fire says the crane has stabilized and the operator is now out of the machine. The people in a home on the crane's path have been evacuated.

There are no reports of injuries.

Everything looked normal this morning--I suppose the crisis was averted.

for $500K +, one would expect at least 8" concrete block or something similar between the units.

These towns on Bright are actually starting at 800k. Nuts! I'm just waiting for a developer to knock on my door and hand me a bucket of cash for my property.

Sept 15

"Huston" we have a problem.

Looks like there is some problems on this project as they were site measuring the distance under the steel beams as concrete is lower for supporting them. Welder was cutting steel and you can see a beam setting on a wood tube on top of a concrete column that short to support the beam in the first place.

Where are the views for the units on the south side of the building.

The south side of this building is on a narrow laneway with an old live/work warehouse building immediately on the other side. Then, if you can see over this, you see the Gardiner off ramp. I doubt they advertise "views" ;)

Out of interest, does anyone have an update / pictures?

Yeah, see the post above you.

In regards to the ill-measured column; that's absolutely unacceptable (and embarrassing). Initially I liked Streetcar's developments because they're nicely design and scaled, however upon closer inspection, their quality seems mediocre at best. I pass their King Street projects on the King streetcar everyday, and visually they appear to be built to minimum standards (no modern home should have less than solid poured or block concrete separation between units, in my opinion). Along with this, the inability to measure properly as evidenced in the above photos drives the point home, buyers beware.

This one has hardly moved since I saw it on Sept 15. I guess those problems in the basement were serious after all to put a steel built this far behind compare to the other ones.

Mod's, when they start the next batch of buildings, place them as separate names. Very hard to put photo's in this threads when you shot more than one of each without making it very long.

Sales office is close and looks like this is the next project to start as the other 4 are nearing completion.

...by any chance, that isn't your beige Chevy Venture, is it?

I posted this on the Corktown thread but it probably fits here better. Actually, these two threads could do with some tidying up and I agree with Drum that with so many Streetcar buildings involved a better organisation is needed. (Though they are all sort of connected too.)

This is more of the Streetcar buildings, I think this is their old showroom plus the offices just west.
