Was just on the corktown.ca website. From the looks of the site, especially the most recent newsletter, this is one on-the-ball BIA: http://corktown.ca/2012/12/fall-2012-corktowner-available-for-download/

Great work, GraphicMatt and others!

The Corktown Residents and Business Association is NOT a BIA. If they were they would have access to City funds and merchants in their area would have to be members. Other areas tend to have official BIAs and separate resident groups - a good example is the adjacent St Lawrence area where the BIA and the Neighbourhood Assocaition now share the same boundaries (the BIA expanded in the last year or so) and they work closely together on matters of mutual interest.

The store on Adelaide east of Parliament put up big Canadian Tire signs. What is that about?

The vacant site just east of the Infiniti (now Volvo) dealership at Eastern and Trinity is finally seeing some work. The large pile of earth has been moved. This is supposed to be the site of the new Acura dealership when they are moved from Front and Lower Sherbourne. There is an applicatiobn in as:

47 EASTERN AVE
Ward 28 - Tor & E.York District

►▼View All Properties

This is good news. At least it's another dealership moving east. I imagine that it will be located here for 5 years...then move on even further east when developers take an interest in this site...along with All City Storage.

Always appreciate your updates DSC!

Does anyone know why this nice leafy green oasis on Parliament St. just north of Mill St was totally clear cut this week? It contained some of the biggest trees around. I assume this is clearing the way for some sort of development (Library HQ? Donlands?) but it seems like such a shame in the meantime, especially knowing they will likely one day be replaced by little sticks of trees like the ones on Mill St that keep dying...

Yes. This is the site that was recently swapped with the City for the First Parliament site and the new owners are about to erect a data centre there. There's a thread for it somewhere and the building was quite well received by the DRP. Pity about the trees though.

Ah, ok, thanks for that info DSC. I'll look up the Data Centre thread.

There appears to be a new coffee shop opening at king/ trinity on the north side of king called "tandem coffee". Also quite a bit of activity on the interior of one of the retail units at 569 king st. in the corktown district condo as well as the interior of the former lung association building at the corner of King/ st. lawrence. It seems that this stretch of king might be on the verge of becoming the retail strip that the vacant units were built to accommodate.

Does anyone know what might be going into 366 Queen East? It was formerly the "Federal Mattress Company" across from the TD at Queen / Parliament. There seems to be an extensive reno going on. Liquor License permit in the window with a variance sign stating a restaurant with more than 30 seats? Fingers crossed!

Very curious to know what's going in the former Lung Association. The sign says 'leased' and there appears to be some work being done on the upper floor.

There is an active permit but it says little. (At one time there was talk of a kindergarten.)

Thanks! I guess we'll just have to be patient. Activity seems to be ramping up along that stretch. Hopefully the empty spaces in the Streetcar condos will be filled up as people continue to move in.

I was also curious of the old Heart and Lung Association building. On the city's website, it's already listed as a Daycare: http://www.toronto.ca/children/dmc/webreg/gcreg12913.html

I wonder if this is current or old? Appears to be a daycare chain.
