If done properly, dedicated right turn lanes (and dedicated left turn lanes) can be a good thing for pedestrians and cyclists. Allows for dedicated turn signals, which allows fully protected turn phases which can completely eliminate conflicting traffic movements, so there are no turning cars at all when bicycle/pedestrian lights are green. For this reason, you see one lane splitting into 3 (right turn, straight, left turn) on almost every Dutch two-lane arterial or major collector road (basically, whenever you can expect a non-negligible number of each traffic movement).

It's not unprecedented in Toronto, @reaperexpress made a really good video 10 years ago about protected turn phases at Eglinton and Allen:

Certainly getting rid of the right turn lane would afford more space for the cycle track and buffer space, but the same right turning conflict still exists, only there would be no way of eliminating it by installing an extra right turn signal.

(that said, I doubt Toronto would start widespread implementation of such protected signal phases anytime soon, we still have just started figuring out how to do the hard infrastructure properly, let alone these 'invisible' measures)

EDIT: Actually, looks like the project at Bloor/St George has a westbound to northbound right turn lane for exactly this:

They have sort-of done this at the intersection of Bloor (eastbound) and Parkside. I would have liked to have seen a "no right turn" on red sign placed on the nearside of the right turn lane. The existing one is included in a clutter of other directional signs. (note the vehicle in the street view image turning right on the red)

The next meeting for the Humber Gap Trail project is coming up on May 17.

Good news, the preferred alignment is the one we all hoped for, entirely in-valley.

Its unfortunate they just couldnt keep it on the east bank for simplicity sake, but it will be nice.

I agree about the no right turn signage needing to be better. I am at this intersection every day as a pedestrian and the number of cars aggressively honking about the first car in the queue not turning (not realizing that their signal is red and no right turns permitted at that moment) is mind-boggling.
 
New Multi-use Trail along Murray Ross Pkwy in the York U area is just about done.........just a few markings and plantings left:

Needs to be rule passed by council in Toronto that anywhere in the city limits if there are grassy curbs of significant size on the side of the road, these have to be built anytime the road is resurfaced/repaired etc.
 
So phase 2 of the Esplanade is happening now? good to see. I thought it was contingent on the St Lawrence Market North being completed.

Phase 2 (what is going on now) brings the track west to George. It will proceed to Lower Jarvis and Yonge in 2023. The short link at Parliament Square Park to separate pedestrians from cyclists will be happening 'in the fairly near future" once the Province signs off on the land that is being transferred to the City (or not compulsorily purchased by the Province!)
