I've been saying this for a while. What makes people so confident any of the Transit City lines would have been done on time? Maybe a few years ago one could have claimed so; but not since Eglinton slipped and slipped and slipped.
How’s finch schedule wise. Eglinton was by far the most complicated of all the lines.

Is 3.5 years today based on a 2020 completion date? Where did 2020 come from? I see that referenced a lot but it seems to be just a government announcment back in 2011? The contract says September 2021.

It was to be largely elevated, or rebuilding of an existing corridor, nothing complicated.

What is a year when it has already miss the date (your September 2021) by 19 month and counting, regardless where the fall of 2020 opening came from. Its late period.
 
If the LRT option was selected, there would be a guaranteed bus-only period, when the old SRT is out and the new SLRT is not running yet. The forecast duration was 2-3 years according to various estimates. We can assume that the real duration would be about 5 years, based on how other similar projects are going.

With the subway option, it was possible - in theory - to avoid the bus-only period altogether. The subway could be in service before the SRT decommissioning begins. In fact, that was considered one of the benefits of subway.

In reality .. our planners are so hopelessly behind the curve that the bustitution period will be longer than 5 years. The subway design / funding / construction process is at least 7 years behind any reasonable schedule, counting from the time the City Council supported the subway option back in 2013/2014.

Having achieved that, our planners desided to extend the winning streak, and botched the busway. It has been known at least 3 years back that SRT will be EOL in 2023. Of course they can't build the busway while the SRT is still running; but the design? how hard can it be

And here we are. SRT operation ends in a few months, there is no funding for the busway, and no final design for the busway. We are debating whether we have the funds just to finalize the design.

Operation of a busway on the existing SRT line may begin as early as Winter 2025, following modifications to the existing SRT right-of-way.

Is there an interim solution to servicing SRT passengers between its closure in 2023 and the SRT busway beginning in 2025?
As an interim solution, beginning in fall 2023, the TTC Board has approved delivering express bus service via the Kennedy and Midland Couplet. Buses will operate southbound via Midland and northbound via Kennedy between Scarborough Centre and Kennedy stations.

In the event the city is unable to secure the outstanding $59M for the SRT busway, will the project run along Kennedy, Ellesmere and Midland until the SSE is completed?
If the City is unable to secure funding from the province, it would ultimately have to find an alternate source if it wished to build the busway. The transit priority measures that will be implemented on Kennedy, Ellesmere, and Midland are planned to be designed as long-term solutions regardless of the busway construction; they could have legacy use for customers even beyond SSE is completed.

Winter 2025 for the busway seems ambitious (if that means Jan-Feb 2025), but that would be more a year earlier than I predicted, mostly accounting for my assumption they couldn't get more funding until next budget cycle.

This item is currently before Council as I type.

The TTC has apparently 'found' money to proceed with design, but construction remains unfunded.

Councillor Peruzza who is running for Mayor just went bonkers in the chamber, after a motion he made that the TTC proceed with construction while a funding source is investigated was ruled out of order by the chair. By bonkers I mean he wouldn't sit down and hush and the Chair has asked security to remove him from the Council Chamber.

* just as the guards were about to 'escort' the Councillor out, the Chair called for Council's dinner break.
 
No tweets on tunneling progress since the start in January and lots of piling ongoing just across the street from the launch shaft. Diggy Scardust may be in a bit of trouble...

is there any work happening on site? A shovel this big would create a lot of traffic removing earth from the tunnel, it would be hard to fake.
 
There is barely any movement at the Scarborough Centre station location, just an excavator pushing around some gravel in the staging lot this morning. They'll have to get going on the station walls soon if the TBM is going to be moving south..

Tough start for this dig if there’s a problem. I wonder what went wrong, if anything. Has anybody seen the conveyors moving earth or tunnel rings being lowered? Looks like headwalls going up on south side of Sheppard. Possible TBM rescue? Speculation at this stage. Status update would help
