Went out this evening around the "Downtown Yonge" area to capture some photos and videos of Christmas lights. Even though it was freezing cold, and I was shivering when taking the outdoor photos, most of the photos turned out quite nicely. Thank God for my shake-resistant Lumix camera!

You've probably seen plenty of day shots of the Ryerson Business Building. Here's a night shot. There's a ribbon screen located over the main entrance, with a somewhat cheesy animation of the school name.

I was at NPS before six pm... when does the City Hall illumination start?

Like cheesy toy factory sound effects and butchered Christmas songs? Check out this video of Queen and Yonge, with The Bay's Christmas windows. Even if you don't like the audio you can still watch it... just turn the sound off.

Those horrific windows at the Bay freaked my kids out. Took one look and that was it for that. Whatever happened to Lego and Barbie?

These lights always set the mood for the festive season. Thanks for posting these pictures.

Whatever happened to Lego and Barbie?

I remember going to Legoworld or something like that at Simpson's when I was a kid - whole cities and landscapes set up in lego. I also remember it being one of my first times on the subway too. The windows used to be amazing as well - well, that was a time before Wal-Mart and power centres.

Who else thinks that the lights stretching across Yonge are grotesque? The way they are wired makes them an eyesore during the day, and even at night they are hardly worth looking up at. The only exception is the treed median just south of College which is fantastic.

It doesn't really feel like Christmas until the big suspended jellyfish thing returns to the Eaton Centre galleria.

I agree. They're pretty pathetic.

They look prety snazzy at night to me. NP looks good as well- nice pics. We need some snow however to cheer it up a little.

I like the lights on Yonge, although when did blue become the de facto Christmas colour?

The tree at Dundas Square is pretty good too.

I think blue, red and green would be too "Christmas-sy".

in isolation the lights are pretty lame, but stretching into the distance as you look up yonge street they do look pretty decent

Here's a few shots of Queen and Yonge and NPS. I strongly recommend checking out NPS tomorrow or Saturday.

I think the HBC LEDs are neat. At night at least.

The projections on Old City Hall are on until Saturday. Really worth seeing. The few clear pics I got do't do it justice.

Finally, I liked this fun with slow shutter shot. Best of my crazy attempts.

Afterwards, I felt like taking the long way back home.

The old King Sol storefront is looking interesting now.

The Junction is using the same blue and white, but with steam locos as the theme. How cute.
