There is currently a restaurant on the alley side of the Birks Building and an extremely good one at that -- Tzin Wine and Tapas. There has been no other eatery in the Birks -- the lease location was formerly a jewelry store before the eyeglass place. Actually it would be a very good location for an eatery and 3 upper storeys would not be a very difficult task in relation to managing a dual shaft -- Hood Exhaust and Make-up air. HVAC as applied to customer comfort is also very easy to accommodate in the current state of equipment capabilities.

Before Tiffin opened up I had hoped for a grocery store in their location. Now, I don't really care, just as long as someone, anyone, fills the space!

NM the score on Sat….what a pleasant Sat we had while walking from the Matrix hotel…..to the Convention Center for the Drunk fest called the RM food and wine festival……it was packed inside….great time had by all…..walked over to Bianco for some vittles at 9pm and there was an “hour wait” to get in…..went to Joeys Bell….last table on the lounge….100% packed…..mostly full of tables of 20 year old something wannabe gangsters…..strange……walk back to the Matrix was uneventful…..streets and walks were clean…no Zombies present either…

Btw, Falcon has to be 100% leased judging by the lights on……..

The odd location for that new tequila spot in the Sylbert, but kinda cool too. Curious to see how it fares.

I guess it's attractive when it makes sense, I guess, closing your 'flagship' stores in those markets (2015/2020) 'to focus on larger format' stores...

Real value, warmth, passion, unity and excellence is reinvesting in those markets who supported you for decades, not showing up for a weekend to extract what you can at a pop up event (in a significantly smaller footprint).

It's a real shame Holt left Downtown Edmonton because it simply did not 'fit their brand' and was not as sexy as Van/Cal/Tor/Mtl, but this kind of stuff drives me nuts.

Here's hoping folks double down on places like Blu's, Singer, The Helm.

Yes, I hope people support those businesses that are here year round, rather than those that just pop in for a few days. We still have several nice local high end retail stores and some have even expanded since Holt Renfrews left.
