In some ways I’m glad that it waasn’t designed and built back before RER came along. Had it been designed back when GO was a peak only service, it might have proved a bit too rudimentary for the hub that is being built today.
But then they'd have had a LOT more motivation to do something about it for the 2015 Union-Pearson opening.

And ultimately adding elevators for the AODO compliance in 2-3 years time.
 
If they had built the GO Train (and UPX) connection back in the 1960's, the east entrance to the Dundas West Station would have been cheaper. Just stairs, no escalators or elevators. Today, it is more expensive to include them.
