Why did they ever get rid of “Heart of the New West”? Or “Be Part of the Energy”?
I think they were trying to diversify their economy, especially after oil prices tanked in 2014 and 2020 and they do not not need to emphasize energy as they already dominate that.

Heart of the New West was not bad, but oddly actually sort of then brings to mind the old west, images of cowboys and such. This may be the opposite of what was intended, but it is also vague. Do they mean the major business centre, economic centre or cultural centre of the west? I would say they are only the first. The economic centre of Alberta is further north, they are one of several cultural centres and the west also includes BC, which has its own business, economic and cultural centres which are significant and some of which are bigger than them.

Slogans and branding are tricky and can easily slide to inoffensive and vague or meaningless, which Blue Sky sort of is.

Not really about branding per se, but for an outside perspective on where we're doing well: a couple of my friends who live in Toronto were visiting lately. They're an urban planner and an environmental engineer. They were really impressed by
  • The view from Grant Notley Park / Victoria Promenade
  • Paul Kane Park
  • Everything we ate, but especially Padmanadi (one of them said it was tied for the best vegan restaurant they'd been to—with Apteka in Pittsburgh) and Little Wolf
  • Whyte/83 Ave in general (more genuinely lively than anywhere they went in Calgary, they said), and the Black Dog in particular
They really did not like:
  • The part of downtown near the Ledge
  • The not-yet-renovated western stretches of Jasper

What specific area of downtown near the ledge - like 107-108st south of Jasper or where?

So, it's CFR week.

What groups will we see host corporate events, build spirit and drive CFR into another gear?

Will we see all of the sister organizations from Calgary come up like ours did as they went to Stampede and held elaborate 'Edmonton' parties?
