Boston Pizza Unveils its 'Restaurant Of The Future'

With more than 380 locations coast to coast in Canada, the goal for 2017 is to open approximately 15 new locations. In addition to urban areas, Boston Pizza is also exploring additional non-traditional locations such as airports and hotels. The next urban project is slated to open this summer at Yonge St. and Gerrard in Toronto, as well as in the Edmonton Ice District and Ottawa's Glebe neighbourhood.

The fabled BP's in ICE District looks to be getting closer to reality.

BP's of the future... I'm sure the JW Marriot is loving that a BP's is opening next door. ;) :D

@westcoastjos If it's as upscale-looking as in those photos, I don't think they would mind. Gives their customers more options and incentive to stay there.
Just Google JW Marriott though and see what comes up. In most places of the world, a BP's next door would be crazy talk. The prior rumour's of Starbucks about a year and a half ago would have been more welcome. I'm just saying that if I'm an exec with Marriott, I'm not pleased about BP's. I suppose if you have money though - http://skyrisecities.com/news/2017/03/target-sets-its-sights-hells-kitchen - straight from the frontpage of Skyrise today. Odd spot for a Target, but it is being done.

I'm from a small town myself and have ate at BP's many times. I don't hate it by any means, but I don't think the same can be said for people that work for Marriott. Whether you agree with it or not, brand power is a thing.

@westcoastjos Given that it's all the same landlord (ONE), I'm sure JW could have had a say if they were really concerned. Honestly, though, it's a city; you're not going to be able to pick your neighbours. I'm sure at least some of JW Marriott's other properties worldwide share blocks with other "downlevel" restaurants elsewhere.

ONE Properties and by extension OEG and Katz Group are more worried about serving their wide demographic that goes to hockey games in this market. Edmonton's market is quite different than other markets without doubt. Toronto games have a higher demographic of suits at games for sure.

JW Marriott on the other hand only has 75 properties worldwide and they aim for luxury almost always. I checked out a number of their properties, and there are maybe 5 in the US that might have a downscale restaurant next door. The rest are pretty much in very nice luxury districts (think Louis Vuitton, Versace, and the restaurants that go with those) or in locations that are somewhat remote or their own resort. If you're staying at a JW, you're not in the demo that frequents BP's.

Look, I'm just pointing out the fact that they are probably displeased with the tenant that was chosen next door. They'd probably have preferred a nice steakhouse. Regardless, I'm sure they will have nicer options in house that will suit their clientele's needs better. That is all; we don't need to have an argument over it! :)

Looks like only half the N got the lighting treatment.
