C.1 Exhibition Lands (City Project)
Michellle Ouellette - City of Edmonton

MOTION: D. Brown
Motion of Support with Conditions

As the project proceeds, the Committee recommends the following be considered:
● As the fine-grained road network described in the presentation was not apparent in
package, ensure the development of clear policy direction to achieve this intention.
● Converting 118 Avenue at Coliseum Station to an at-grade crossing to improve the
urban design condition and reinforce a connected and cohesive development.
● In line with the guiding principles, more clearly articulate the essence, character and
general vision of this development and how it is visually communicated in the
planning framework (eg. through typical sections, typologies, precedent images, etc).
● Explore the opportunity for north-south open space connectivity between Borden
Park and the North Transit Village.

This might be the worst vision I have ever seen for a brownfield redevelopment. It is the kind of result one would expect from 6 chefs trying to make one dessert. Godlike-image help us if this proceeds to the next step!

yes, because we don’t have a better use for 25 million dollars at the moment than to spend it on demolishing an existing building to create an empty piece of land worth maybe one tenth of that amount. because we don’t have the imagination or the will to figure out a use for some 400,000 sf of space at the moment or in the future. this is just sooo wrong... :(

Wouldn't the renovation cost to repurpose it to something other than an arena be much, much more than $25 million? That would only be feasible if a developer approached the City to purchase it and bear all of the reno costs.
