I didn't know Canadian North flew to Firebag.
Canadian North does a lot of chartered flights to various oil sands sites.

Reminds me of the days of Suncor flying 30,000 people a month... god those boom days were something different

Very discouraging. I’m going to ask tomorrow at the public general meeting what gives.
 
Anecdotal but many people are driving to Calgary for various WestJet flights. There's a lot of market leakage happening. Yeg needs to attract some unique flights to draw people.
Don’t know that is the reason the domestic passenger numbers that are down the trans border and international are up quite a bit. It doesn’t make sense to drive down the highway for a flight you can get from here.
 
I do hear of lots of folks driving to Calgary as well but I wouldn’t suspect this is happening any more than has happened in years past.

I could rationalize hubs performing better but YEG is also getting killed by other non-hubs like YWG as noted above and I don’t think it’s strictly related to Flair drawdown.

Tbh with how **** it was getting dropped off/picked up at the end of the parkade during the winter in Q1, I get why some might have just opted to go to Calgary lol

I suspect this could be an issue for many people how much impact it had on passenger numbers though is in question
