That's what YYC'ers pay all of the time cause their planes are so empty.....if it wasn't for us and the good pig farmers of Saskatchewan - there would be no WJ fortress......
I hate to say it, but "YYC'ers" pay less overall because there are 3 airlines competing head on for YYC-ORD, which inevitably drops prices. It's not because of poor load factors.
If the planes were "so empty", there simply would not be 3 airlines on the route with exponentially increasing capacity.

Not every positive thing for YYC is a direct, personal attack on YEG like this thread sometimes likes to pretend ;)

I think that routes gonna be a blood bath for pricing this year as both compete for dominance. Little afraid both of them lose their shirts and walk away, but this first year will be interesting.

Nah. Introductory pricing is often a think to bring attention and build momentum. One will certainly survive, two.... TBD.

Whether it is two or three airlines, this is what happens when there is competition, the prices will certainly help attract interest and grow the market.

As well as local people, this may attract flyers from elsewhere who would have traveled through other cities instead. For now, this is a good thing and we will see how it turns out..

Cool…..but why? Is this a prelude to us wanting to become a semi-conductor hub?

My inference was just that YEG is desperate for a link to Asia, which is fair, but they're targeting this market as it has the possibility to be subsidized or sponsored by another party - whether it be the government, or a semi-conductor company.

Super bizarre regardless of the reasons, however I still wish the best for it. It will be very interesting to see what comes of this.

Wait what?! You wrote this article? A 1000 pardons that I didn’t credit you as author…..

I started off my statement with the word "inference". Did you miss that?
I in no way insinuated I'm an expert. Why such hostility?

Porter Airlines adding Edmonton YEG - Hamilton YHM from July 9th - end of October 2025.

And 1st time YEG - YHM nonstop flight is back (if) I’m not mistaken since Swoop Airlines ✈️ ended it.

Wonder *if* WestJet will retaliate or not? Will see.
Westjet fleet has to be getting a little strung out with the swoop planes still rotating through for cabin upgrades. Good timing for porter as summer schedules were locked down quite a while ago so Westjet would be making a late change. Would be nice to see this one start a little earlier - mid June would be great, but will see what sort of traffic it can attract.
