Well then it seems that one solution would be to put Kane on LIR (and let him have his needed surgery) and match the offer for both Broberg and Holloway... maybe delaying other factors in the decision making process but for the moment blunting StL move and keeping both players.

Those are the rumors floating around in terms of how to squeeze through this current tight spot. Based on my math, with putting Kane on LTIR they still would have to do some cap gymnastics to be compliant. Like trading someone around $3m aav (likely Kulak or Ceci) and even having to send someone to Bakersfield and starting the year with just 22 or 21 players. They will have a problem during the season, though, when Kane is ready to return so they would be rolling the dice by just kicking the can down the road. However it isn't out of the realm of possibilities that one of their older higher paid players gets injured at some point and they can put that player on LTIR. It would be a gamble though.
 
^ by no means am I saying the above is what they should do or makes the most sense from a hockey perspective, it is simply what they would have to do to make the cap numbers work.
