@erudyk_29 Agree with your points about goaltending, and yes Hollands drafting has been very poor here. Ironically in 2016 if we had Holland and took the player he wanted out of place we would've ended up with Matthew Tkachuk. We had his jersey ready and everything but changed plans when Puljujarvi fell to us, Holland may have not changed his plans like Chiarelli did. Just add it to the list of this team making us miserable lol

Oilers management has been horrific at finding and developing talent for decades. This is the same organization that chose Selmar Odelein (who?) in 1984 when a guy named Patrick Roy was available (so, for that matter, was Luc Robitaille). In 1985 they picked Scott Metcalfe over Joe Nieuwendyk. In 1990 they took Scott Allison over somebody named Martin Brodeur. In 1995 they chose Steve Kelly over Jarome Iginla. In each case, Edmonton passed over a future Hall of Famer in order to choose a complete NHL bust.

In 2012 they wasted a hard-earned first round draft pick on Nail Yakupov, who would become one of the biggest NHL draft failures of all time. Adding to the lunacy was the fact that the OIlers passed over Griffin Reinhart to select Yakupov. Reinhart was no star himself, but Edmonton was apparently so obsessed with acquiring him that it later traded a first round draft choice to the club that actually did select him, the NY Islanders. The NYI went on to use the OIlers' 2015 first round pick to select Matthew Barzal--who HAS become an NHL star.

The rot set in a LONG time ago with this club.

The way this year has gone it makes total sense the Oilers would have their best game of the year during a matinee when they usually don't play well.

Nice to see PP and PK really kick into gear.

5-0 win!
Stu gets the 25-save shutout against a team that boasts Alex Ovechkin among their number.
The power play came to life, and the penalty kill was superb.

That was probably this teams best game of the season, never mind the best result of the season.

It would be nice to see if they can keep it up and put a bit of a string of wins together.

To Vegas Golden Knights:
  • Leon Draisaitl C
  • Jack Campbell G
To Edmonton Oilers:
  • Jack Eichel C
  • Erin Basil GF
  • Jiri Patera G

This deal solves multiple problems for the Oilers. It gets rid of Campbell and his contract, both of which are albatrosses around the team's neck. It provides for an upgrade in goal with Patera, who is significantly younger and has solid upside.

The heart of the transaction is Campbell for Eichel--a swap that is essential so the rest of the league can never say Edmonton doesn't have Jack.

While losing Draisaitl hurts the Oilers, the addition of Eichel (who is younger) will ease the pain. Immediately Eichel and Basil become the club's top pairing.

Why would Vegas make that deal?

Which team is going to show up tonight? We desperately need this win to claw back and ever closer to Anaheim, let alone the pack.
