The Wild had Filp Gustavsson in net yesterday instead of Jesper Wallstedt (who again should have been drafted by the Oilers instead of Xavier Bourgault), otherwise it would have been another shutout against the Oilers.

.600 is not bad for a roadtrip outcome. If the Oilers can win the next 2 home games they will begin to move the needle in their favor.

Colorado is unreal this year. They dismantled Minnesota 5-1 tonight.

It's hard to believe their PP is where its at. And if it was where it should be with that lineup, l don't know who is going to stop them.

Only lost twice (in regulation)

Pickard is hardly to blame for the loss today. Defensive play in front of him was not the best. Also good to point out that not always a loss is anyone's fault, sometimes it's just that the opposing team were better at hockey. Minnesota is one damn good hockey team and they outplayed the Oilers on every aspect today. If anything, Pickard gave them a fighting chance for most of the night.
Would it be great if we had a goalie who could've stolen the game? Absolutely, but that would hardly have been Jarry either.
Fair points. we tend to blame the goalies for a lot of the losses, but defense is still part of it, also for sure Minnesota deserves some cred. They're a better team then they get credit for. If I'm not mistaken, the wild were up near top last season before getting hit with injuries.

Colorado has been unreal, but I have to be honest, I wonder if it's not smoke and mirrors we're seeing? McKinnon and Makar are great obviously, Toews is very good, but after that there is a drop off in what I would consider game makers. Necas? Nichushkin? Burns and Landeskog? They're both fossils. Blackwood has been good, but we'll see in the playoffs.

Detroit finished with over 120 points in 2005/06 and the Oilers beat them in the first round.

It's rare for team with most points in season to win the cup.

Nevertheless, Colorado is doing impressive things with Stanley Cup champion pedigree to boot - so they know what it takes to win in playoffs unlike a team like the Jets last year who had an amazing regular season but didn't get far.

Colorado, Dallas and Minnesota are 1-2-3 in the entire league and all in same division.

Four goals is the worst lead in hockey, but a W is a w.
In this game it was a case of trying to play shut-down defense when the Oilers should have kept their collective feet on the gas pedal. It is a hard lesson to learn and then there is the case that it was their second of back-to-back games and they may have just flagged a little bit because of it.

A couple of notable things about the season so far.

1. The Eastern Conference - it is a true horse race. Only 8 points separate 1st in conference from 14th (and all 16 teams have good shot at playoffs still, which is good for the league). Compare that to Western Conference where 28 points separate 1st (Colorado) from 14th (Winnipeg).

2. Florida Panthers. They are back. After a worse start than the Oilers, they are 8-2 in their last 10 games. A lot of injuries, too, including Tkachuk and Barkov (who isnt expected back until late April).

Go Oilers.
