Would this have similar management to the larger rogers group for the arena? I know a lot of companies have struggled to rehire staff at large volumes after covid. Do you think they held off on the casino partially to focus on rehiring and training the arena staff? I’d imagine some similar pools of service and event workers. Maybe too much to do all at once?

I'm not much of a fan of casino's, but having it reopen is better than another empty space. When the bars and restaurants on the West Side of the Plaza open, it will finally be an entertainment district.

However, with all the banks there, I think it should be more accurately called the Entertainment and Bank District.

The fact they didn’t do at least some sort of “soft” open of even just slots and a bar service during playoff games is pretty surprising but then to just randomly open a month and a half later anyway? Bizarre.

nice!

I do think Casino + multiple restaurants, bars, arcade, food court (when it opens too), plus of course the arena itself, will make a pretty decent entertainment cluster.
Somewhat dysfunctional given the casino is across the road or accessed by the overpass. It has no presence within the ice plaza which is too bad. The future might be better IF Katz/One ever build the trophy tower which no doubt will have access to the area, Ice District 2 and possibly direct to JW. All that might tie the casino into the build out.

I believe it is separate. It is managed by Gateway Casinos. Gateway also manages the WEM casino.

I went to the Grand Villa Casino during the noon hour.
The entrance from the arena is still closed so I had to use the main entrance on 104 Ave.
Not a lot of people in the casino, but then again it's only their 3rd day since reopening.
The washrooms did not have paper towels. I think there are dryers at each sink.
I'm told that Atlas may reopen for the next NHL season. Staffing issues are the main reason for the delay.
I suggested that they install a poker room in order to attract more casino attendees who would otherwise leave downtown to attend the Starlight or the River Cree - I was directed to the suggestion box to fill out a form.
