Extended downtown casino closures cost province, Edmonton charities millions

AGLC unsuccessfully tried to require Grand Villa Casino to operate 7 days a week

This casino is a joke in the charity communities. Even the WEM casino has a better rep. Poorly designed, poorly marketed. and thinking that they could draw off the arena crowd was nuts. Different demographics.

Most casinos should just print money conceivably, so the fact that Grand Villa was closed for so long and doesn't even operate well is something to behold.

The Casino advisor I worked with last time mentioned that there was a whole lot of screw ups. one big one was not having Chinese or Asian food restaurants in the initial opening. I knew a lot of office workers that went to the old one for lunches because it was cheap. They stopped going with the new place. (My wife being one of them).

Obviously the casino was meant to be one piece in the entertainment district. So when events stopped happening, hotels were almost empty and hardly anyone was coming downtown that had to hurt a lot.

I am not a fan of casino's but perhaps in one respect it was unfortunate timing, getting this up and running and then COVID hit. They are now getting back up to speed and perhaps dealing with issues that would have been more apparent earlier, if they had been operating more normally. I agree having Chinese or Asian food restauarants would probably help.

The Grand Villa Casino is also missing a poker room. This is why people prefer going to the River Cree Casino.

I'm not a gambler/casino person - but they built a casino to serve higher end patrons without a poker room? what?

Reactions: God
No poker room means no special event with world elites gathered for an invitation...
As a non-gambler and have never stepped foot into a casino, WHAT...?
