On the twitter reference there was a mention of "Prairie Surfing" which brought to mind a particular enjoyment I used to partake in when I was but a lad on my Grandmother's farm near Macklin Sask. My cousin and I would take a grain scoop (aluminum with a very wide mouth) and affix a rope to the D-shaped handle. We would then climb the largest hill in the cow pasture and ride the scoop a la prairie-grass surfing from the top of the hill to the bottom. After countless trips in this fashion we both became expert grain-shovel surfers able to "steer" the shovel with the rope-attached-to-the-D-shaped handle. We once scared the stink out of a skunk on just such an escapade.
Not nice, but we've seen worse, air quality at a 3 today I believe. Hope for everyone affected that they get the fires in the south and elsewhere under control soon.
