paying 1500/month for a small apartment flooded with constant lrt noise and bell ringing sounds like a dream

Different strokes for different folks. Maybe having the LRT station right by their apartment outweighs the noise.

What’s wrong with train noise? I find it soothing. Surely not everyone’s cup of tea but far better than road noise

I agree 100% I love hearing trains, but I also know that I'm not in the majority with that lol 🤣

Train noises are fine. Crossing gate bells, not so much. Although I do wonder, what are the regulations around having "silent" crossing gates (just flashing lights and gates, no bells) at LRT crossings to reduce noise for surrounding neighbourhoods? If they are allowed without compromising train speed, I'd love to see silent crossing gates in the McKernan and Stadium neighbourhoods. And as I've argued before, use them at all crossings on the Valley Line south of Whitemud Drive and west of WEM station to boost speeds and reduce vehicle collisions.

Is there a way to make it safe for someone who is blind/issues with seeing safe to cross? That may be why the bells go off.

I guess if there are pedestrian crossing arms that would be a deterrent too.

People pay far more than that to live in other cities with mass transit. The LRT in Edmonton is relatively quiet compared to the trains that run through places like, say, Brooklyn.

Anyways, our bedroom faces Whyte Ave (from 83 Ave) and the only thing that drowns the noise out a bit is distance to Whyte. I have never been woken up by sirens etc in the 7 years I've lived here.
