Really don't like these designs. It just feels like a PowerPoint photo collage my 70 year old profs would use. Not a modern and artistic design. Did the engineers choose the art?! (Jokes). But actually... I find most of these cheap and cheesy
I mean yeah... it isn't going to be the highest quality art. At least they are putting unique artwork at each stop unlike in other lrt systems.

yeah, i'm not a big fan of the 'print some designs on the glazing and that's the art' approach in general, and some of the designs do really seem decorative and/or reductive in terms of content. The Strathearn stop takes a lot of effort to love, imo. that being said, it is all visible, there are differences between each stop, and each work is recognizable as different from all the others, marking each stop as unique. I'm excited to see the sculptures and more involved works go up later this year. idk. these discussions are fun!

Some inspiration for art.
I love the Montreal Metro, but it's definitely not the best comparison for our low-floor surface-level LRT 😆

Which stop has the sliding animals again?
Avonmore stop has the sliding Deer.

Valley Line LRT Public Art Avonmore Stop

Description

The canopy artwork for the Avonmore Stop will comprise three whimsical life-size sculptures of deer merrily sliding down the roofs of the transit shelter. Drawing on the Avonmore neighbourhood’s proximity to the Mill Creek Ravine, the realistic, playful deer sculptures will evoke fun pastimes in the river valley, such as the simple joy of sliding downhill. Through community engagement, artist Paul Freeman will determine the placement of the works as well as the form or poses and surface treatment.

I understand that the animals at the Strathearn stop and the glazing at the Bonnie Doon and Holyrood stops may not be revolutionary, but I'll take those over something like the "feature walls" at each stop along the ION line in Waterloo. I realize they've got other public art pieces along the line, but I'm glad Edmonton chose art that's integrated into the stops and is more distinct than different coloured tiles at each stop.
