Once was the world's tallest office building for over 40 years, until the original World Trade Center was built & completed! All other skyscrapers have yet to make that claim! When on September 11, 2001, the Twin Towers were attacked and destroyed by hijacked planes (both from Boston while enroute to los Angeles), the Empire State Building became New York City's tallest building.
Between 2012 and last year, the ESB was once again eclipsed in New York, this time by the new One World Trade Center, aka the Freedom Tower, When the erection of the steel frame was completed (2012) and when the erection of the spire was completed (2013).
Built in 1931, it stands at over 1,200 feet at 102 floors and has become the icon of New York City (Upper Manhattan)!!
