and damp. That would have been a cool place to live.
Hope you can help...Do you know about an undertakers business that would have been at 9-11 Queen St. W., beside Knox Church from 1870-1887. I would have been W. Sharp & Son, Luke Sharpe, then Turner & Leamen. I've poured over hundreds of photos and can't seem to find a street view photo. Eaton's eventually went in that spot. Any thoughts? I'd appreciate any help!
You are right. From what I understand, Eaton's and Simpson's switched sides. This business was there, listed in the city directory, from 1870-1887. I just for the life of me, can't seem to even catch a glimpse of it in the background of another photo. I'll keep looking, they moved to 213-215 Queen St. W., then 245-247 Queen St. W., and then 751 Queen St. W. No luck finding anything so far!Would it not have been Simpsons that "went in that spot?" --- south side of Queen , west of Yonge.
Perhaps some early photos before Simpsons was built (or under construction) would provide results.

Thanks for all the great info and photos, Anna.p.s.
Goldie, the building on the southeast corner of Queen and Yonge in the 1890 photo is 178 Yonge - which was the original (Toronto) Eaton's store. However, the awning in the photo appears to say 'Simpson'.
