Who wants to take a guess at what type of delays we'll see with this line on it's grand opening on it's first day?

Take your pick between the following:
  1. Emergency Alarm
  2. Police/Fire Investigation
  3. Signal Problem
  4. Mechanical Issue
  5. Trespasser at Track Level
  6. Vehicle Intrusion (Bonus)
Personally i'd say at least 2 of the above are bound to happen.
Well i guess sit's a good thing that the subway doesn't start running for an hour after Finch LRT opens

Does anyone know what speed restrictions have been put in place along Finch? Looking back at early testing done by contractors, speeds were almost double what they are now. I've noticed LRVs crawl everywhere, stop for yellow lights and take a while to start moving after a light turns green. Would be interested exactly why operations are so much slower under TTC operation

no speed restrictions that I'm aware of. Operators are to operate at a safe speed, up to a maximum of 60 km/h, which is the line speed limit. In all likelihood what you were seeing is operators who still aren't 100% used to the handling characteristics of the LRVs are are hence operating below the line speed limit. Since the operators are able to know what a switch is set to well in advance of going over them, there is no stop, look, and proceed slow rules here. Any signs with a specific speed limit at switches are there to indicate what speed to traverse the switch at when that switch is set to the diverging direction. The initial schedules were likely designed to account for that relative inexperience with these vehicles and that operators may be operating at below the speed limit for the first few weeks/months. I expect they'll get adjusted as the TTC themselves get more concrete performance data and feedback from the train operators on their relative comfort level with the trains.

Three days until Line 6 Finch West opens
TTC announces operating hours beginning December 7

Dec. 4, 2025

Line 6 Finch West – Toronto’s newest transit line – will officially open to customers on Sun. Dec. 7. The first westbound train will depart from Norfinch Oakdale Station at 7:33 a.m., while the first eastbound train will leave Jane & Finch Station at 7:47 a.m.

For detailed first train times at each of the 18 new Line 6 stations, customers are encouraged to visit the official TTC schedules page: https://www.ttc.ca/routes-and-schedules.

Before regular service begins, two ceremonial trains will depart from Finch West Station.

Opening day is expected to be busy, and the TTC has organized special activities to mark the occasion. Customers will have the opportunity to collect exclusive Line 6 souvenirs, including special-edition ride guides, vehicle cutouts, and limited-edition commemorative coins and buttons.

As the TTC prepares for the opening of Line 6 Finch West, customers are being advised of important service information and route adjustments.

Line 6 operating hours

Following the recommendations of the Ottawa LRT public inquiry, Line 6 Finch West will operate under “soft opening” conditions with trains running from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays. The temporary early closing will provide the line’s maintainers, Mosaic Transit Group, with an extended maintenance window.

Trains will arrive every six and a half minutes during weekday morning and afternoon rush hours, and every 10 to 12 minutes at all other times.

Between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m., service will be provided by Line 6 shuttle buses operating every 10 minutes, serving on-street LRT stops along the Finch West corridor. Shuttle buses will alternate trips with the 37S Islington to reduce the number of transfers for customers travelling from Humber College Bus Terminal to Humberwood Loop.

The 336 Finch West Blue Night service will operate after 1 a.m. until the start of train service.

Transit riders are being reminded that onboard fare payment is not available on Line 6 vehicles. When at a surface stop, customers can pay their fare on the platform with PRESTO, a credit or debit card or mobile wallet. If using cash, customers can use the single-ride vending machine on the platform and obtain a paper transfer as their proof-of-payment.

Opening day schedule

On Sun., Dec. 7, the TTC will host a celebratory opening at Finch West Station. The planned opening day schedule is below:

• 7:00 a.m. – Brief remarks from dignitaries.
• 7:20 a.m. — A ceremonial first train will depart Finch West Station. This trip will be reserved for media and invited guests.
• 7:27 a.m. — A second train will depart Finch West Station. Members of the public are welcome to board and join the celebration. This train will be travelling to Driftwood Station and returning to Finch West Station. It will not be picking up customers at other stops.
• 7:33 a.m. — The first in-service train will depart Norfinch Oakdale Station, heading west.

Entry to Finch West Station may be limited at times to ensure safety and reduce platform overcrowding. Customers who wish to be among the first to ride the new Line 6 Finch West are encouraged to use all stations on the line. TTC staff will be available at all stations to assist and answer questions.
