The surgery was probably deemed not a high priority. Like if you blew your knee. They do not rush you in. If it was a major displacement fracture, sure you would get a higher priority.

If you broke something doing a healthy activity, The chances are you were already Less of a burden on the health care system than others.

My Family Dr is also a Sports Med Guy. so most of his patients are ex or Master athletes. He likes to say than when his patients come in its usually important since we rarely go in.

She planned to break her leg while skiing? That's like me saying I played shinny hockey and took a puck off the leg and broke my leg.
Yeah, I took the risk but I didn't plan to break my leg while playing.

99% of the people on the ski hill do not break their legs and get home fine, so it gets no news coverage. Likewise most people that go to a bar do not get their faces beaten in, most people that drive do not get in accidents either.

I am fortunate to have done all of these for many years and not broken a leg or been injured. There is a reason we call things accidents, so the situation should not reduce the priority for care.
