The unmanned convenience store model has officially failed to catch on here. I actually quite liked the one on 104 st, especially late at night for grabbing a quick snack. Never saw anyone malingering or stealing inside either if you can believe it.

Could be that people didn't understand what it was... I didn't even know this existed until it went under.

It seemed fairly obvious what it was. It seems people just couldn't be bothered to download whatever app to access it. Apparently locked doors are also a deterrent for customers as well as malingerers.

Yes, as a person who prefers to pay cash for small purchases (although I am neither a teenager or homeless), I also avoid places that do not take cash.
 
Never bothered with the unmanned convenience stores. I only went to a convenience store to buy lottery tickets with cash, and the Circle K is much closer to me.

Think that was the case. The sign up on the app also wasn't a quick 'enter in your name and email' either. You had to provide a bunch of information, had to have notifications on, and you had to take a selfie on their app, + give a credit card to open an account for access. Not really something most people wanted to do standing outside the store.

And then on top of that it was just plain expensive. Easily 25%+ more than a normal convenience store for most items.

However, sucks seeing any business fail downtown and especially one that was a 24/7 convenient amenity for residents.
 
Aisle24 on 104 Street lasted way longer than the one on Jasper/119 St. I found it convenient if I was in the area, but honestly Shoppers and Loblaws have way better selection unless you're shopping in the middle of the night. The last time I went there in December it was clear they were not restocking inventory.

Hoping for something interesting in that spot as it's in a prime location.

Each to their own. I'll avoid using or carrying cash as much as possible. I don't remember the last time I had any cash other than the $0.25 and $1 coins I carry in the car for use on shopping carts.
