Went to O'Byrnes downtown after the game on Saturday. Maybe it was the cold, but place was pretty dead for a Saturday night after a big Oilers W.
COVID really led them to that.Whoever the new owners of Jack's Burger Shack will be, I hope the one change they'll make is opening the downtown location on Saturdays during the summer. I'll never understand why they failed to do this, given that the farmers market is practically next door.
Is this a trend across bars that aren't on Whyte? Was at Uncle Glenn's on New Years and my group was one of only two who were there. Bummed me out a bit, they put quite a lot of effort into the decor and celebrating.Went to O'Byrnes downtown after the game on Saturday. Downtown says welcome to Fennec, an intimate wine and cocktail bar/bistro in the City Centre Mall. The new venture joins sister restos Boxer and Coterie; the chef is Jack Dickson. Primarily small plates—duck croquettes, scallop crudo, Brussels with miso and candied peanut—with a few larger dishes at night—braised beef, roast cod. Enjoy lunch Monday-Friday and dinner (for now) Thursday-Saturday, from 4pm. Fennec, 10250 101 Street fennecyeg.com.
You could also add May, Malina, Tiramisu Bistro, and Golden Sparrow for strong brunch menus...then a few more casual ones like Farrow, Remedy, and KB&co have decent breakfast offerings too.Had breakfast at Hathaway's on 124 St this morning. This is the latest to join OEB, Albert's and Brunch Glory for breakfast/brunch places in this neighborhood. Everything was perfect, from the decor to the servers to the delicious food. I'll be back again.
Just a couple of minor critiques:
1. Please provide spoons instead of stir sticks for coffee.
2. Keep the coffee coming.
3. I have this weird habit of drowning pancakes in maple syrup, therefore I could have used more syrup than what was provided.
