I recall that there is a "Phase II" task to extend the double track eastwards from Shantz Crossing. How far it's going I don't know, but possibly the east end switch will not be there forever.

A 45 mph switch at the west end near the new Breslau station is not the end of the world, as trains will be slowing in that region anyways. But slowing them in the middle of the straight shot from there east to Guelph is pretty limiting.
Yes, but even if they align the new east-end switch to match the one they just built at the west end of the second track, that would make the thru route the north track, which is the track where the Breslau Station platform will be located. Meanwhile the station bypass track would be the one requiring a 45 mph limit.

Not all trains will stop at Breslau station. Obviously Via and CN trains won't stop, but even GO's own service can't all stop there given that neither Breslau nor Acton are planned to have platforms on the second track. The train meets that happen need to be between an express train and a local train. But instead of setting the switches up such that the local train that needs to stop anyway is the one that switches tracks, they set it up such that it's the express train that needs to slow down to 45 mph and switch tracks, rather than just blasting through at full speed while the local train is sitting at the platform.

Someone wanted the 3rd track back for LSE for express service and they will not see that 3rd track from the Don River to east of Pape for another year or two as that track has been removed east of the Pape walkway bridge and doesn't exist west of Logan as that area is being dug up to widen the corridor for 4 tracks and the OL.

The area between Dundas and Logan is mostly dug out to allow the building of the new retraining walls from north side of Queen to support GO 4 track corridor that is built south of Queen to the Don River that will see GO tracks shifted to it this weekend with GO trains using it on Monday. It will be spring before that section see tracks move to it.

Sound barrier walls going up on the south side.

Nothing has happen to the NO Frills site and the other building that will become part of the OL.

Some shots of the Lake Shore East Corridor ahead of this weekend's track shifting. Third shot shows where the new tracks will eventually merge back to old tracks. I read in the community notice that the new tracks are only temporary, which seems odd to me. Is there more shifting that has to occur? I thought GO tracks were going to stay on the South & East side of the corridor.

Great photos! You can see the last gasp of the old Riverdale station platform, that will seoon be gone for good!

I'm surprised that they are shifting already before the Dundas and Logan bridges are done. So there'll defininitely be a shift there. And at Gerrard/Carlaw when they start working on the station there.

At the south end, they must be into the track for East Harbour GO; maybe they'll have to do another shift there?

Got another update from today, this time showing the connection to be at the south/west end. They work quick!

The work on Lower Jarvis to create the supports for the expanded rail bridge moves on and they are now removing the temporary platforms they made with concrete blocks and earth. I assume they have put in the piles they need for the bridge supports. The one on east side is almost all gone and they seem to be starting on west one. Lower Sherbourne is similar but not as advanced - or wasn't a week ago.

If I am not mistaken, it will be the same type of bridge at Cherry St and Parliament to support the huge duct work that is needed to support all types of communication for the corridor.

You are mistaken. The bridges over Lower Sherburne and Lower Jarvis are so MLX can add an extra track.

The tracks are temporary in the sense that some of them will have to move again.

The new bridges over Dundas and Carlaw are not complete yet, so there will be another track shift there once they are done and ready to have the track installed on them.

There may be another shift or two at the very south end over the Don River in order to account for the work being done on the Ontario Line or at Eastern due to the ongoing construction of East Harbour Station. But at Queen, the tracks are now in their final position.

It looks like the layover site south of Oriole station is starting to be built.
Does anyone know what those bridge sections are for? They have been there for a year now, but have recently been assembled into longer pieces.

They are supposed to widen the 401 for better access to the 404 and DVP and why the new off ramp was built. Don't recall seeing any bridge sections on my last visited to the station.

They are south of York Mills near the beginning of the DonBranch.
