At the risk of asking a question that's already been answered, do we have a sense of when 15-minute all-day will return on LSE and LSW?

The recent Metrolinx document suggests it's short-term, but I can't tell if that's 12-months, or 5 years

Yes I have explained that in detail several times before. The station at Lawrence East is irrelevant to reason I'm sharing the diagram. I doubt that station would ever get built anyway since they're now building a subway station further east along Lawrence.
I was solely commenting on the question whether additional tracks were necessary if a hypothetical station was to be added at Lawrence East by sharing my professional suspicion that this additional station would be less disruptive if it was located at the main tracks without any passing tracks. I strongly believe that the longer dwell times and lower acceleration capabilities of intercity vs. suburban EMUs would allow a much more harmonious co-existence of GO and ALTO than most people here seem to be able to imagine…

Will there be an Alto station in Markham?!
The only alignment that's been discussed that even enters Markham is CP's Peterborough track (the Havelock subdivision) - and that only clips the SE corner, being entirely east of Donald Cousens Parkway, and mostly in the Rouge National Park. There used to be a station at Locust Hill, if I remember correctly. If they go that alignment, I'd think the station would be further south.

The new Sheppard East subway station may be a possibility, though between the distance between the station and the CP track, and being in the middle of the junction between the Belleville Subdivision and Havelock Subdivision, that may be difficult.

On the other hand, there's a lot of land, if you do something like build an underground HSR station south of the CP track, closer to Nugget, and then exit it, curving north under the Agincourt yard to Finch west of Markham Road it might work. No more complex than what HS2 is doing at Old Oak Common station - and that station is only costing about $3 billion (2019$) - though that does include the new surface level Elizabeth line "Tube" in-fill station.

Well, Markham did study a strategic business case of a station at Box Grove. That doesn't mean that there will be one though.

Oh cool. And the map shows the Havelock Sub very well. Though that's for the now-dead VIA HFR not Alto HST.

Hmm ... it is hard though to take seriously a proposal that thinks that Provincial Highway 69 is going to be extended down Ninth Line to Box Grove. It's to take such amateur scribbling seriously.

Maybe the answer is building the station half-way between Locust Hill and Box Grove, and combine it with a subway station along the 407 transitway alignment. Though that does put the station in the middle of the National Park! 🤣

@Reecemartin thanks for sharing your article this week on Go expansion plans! It was the first Metrolinx document in which I've seen a written plan to open a new downtown Toronto station at Spadina and Front. I'd only ever encountered that idea as one you'd mentioned in a youtube video years back. I didn't realize it was moving forward. Is this the first you've heard of it, or do we know more about Metrolinx's plans for implementing that station?

The station at Spadina and Front has been on the books for well over 40 years now. In terms of how strong a push from within GO/Metrolinx, it probably reached its apex about 10 or 15 years ago.

There are currently no plans to build it at any time. It does remain as a "potential option" should things get so busy at Union to warrant it.

Anyone who rides the LSW line that passes the Long Branch GO Station should look out the south window as you pass the station to see the first half section of a new grider bridge that will go over Etobicoke Creek. By the look of it as best I could see it will be for track 1 based on the edge of the concrete deck. Tracks 1 & 2 are a one-piece deck truss bridge. I was told a few weeks ago that tracks 1 & 2 could be the first bridge to be replaced.

Since this is Sunday night, that section of track 1 will be replaced next weekend, as the new support pier doesn't look ready for the new grider. Photos will follow when I have time to get to them with a backlog in front of them.

You can get a clear picture of the new east tunnel that is ready to be pushed under the tracks.

Is the new bridge going to have space for a future fourth track?

LSE Fourth Track Update

Fresh ballast was laid between Greenwood and Coxwell Ave. It was laid on top of the snow, so it was laid recently. Individual track pieces have been laid the length of the area that will eventually be welded together.

No progress on the ~2 switches and signal mast west of Danforth GO that need to be moved.

Considering how much of a rush this has been to get the new structures into place, my guess is "no". There just hasn't been the time to plan and design for it.

Of course, I would love to be proven wrong.

Another edition of Metrolinx being short-sighted clowns. Not building a four track wide Etobicoke Creek bridge today is just going to force us to build a more expensive bridge tomorrow. That or build a single track bridge, either way, costs will inevitably escalate in the future.

I agree. Track doesnt need to be layed / ballasted but factoring in future expansions is what often saves so much money in the future. It was disappointing to me when I saw that Long Branch was being rebuild the same way (1 side + 1 island platform) which will mean it will also have to be rebuilt for 4 track service. It also confuses me because Long Branch does not need access to three tracks.

However, i'm not too aware of what service is currently possible with three tracks, and capacity improvements via ETCS. But it already is a busy line and 4 tracks could easily enable all-day express service.
