This contradicts what many have stated, including news articles. What makes you say this?
I was also under the inpression that DB is involved under the Infrastructure part of the contract, but the ONxpress website clearly suggests that that involvement was limited to the now terminated O&M contract:

That's what I've been told from a former colleague. They left my employer to join ONxpress last year as a Data Analyst and now are out looking for job.
Thanks guys, will always appreciate substantiated info.

…But uh, there we have it, folks….

I was looking through ONxpress' "People" on LinkedIn. There are quite few with "Open to Work" flagged on their profiles and most of them seem have had job titles associated with Operations or Maintenance or Service Now implementation.

However, there's also this worrying Snr Mgr of Overhead Catenary Systems and Traction Power Systems, who's also Open to Work!

I mean sure, they were probably responsible for maintenance of the catenary and TPS.
Just because theyre not maintaining it, doesnt mean Alstom isnt, neither does it mean that its not being built

Metrolinx and the Province really owe some answers on what is going on here.

From my understanding, DB was going to 1. build the infrastructure, 2. maintain it for decades, and 3. something else I can't remember.

Only the maintenance cancellation has been made public, but the entire, intertwined relationship is dead, we just won't hear about it from Metrolinx for months.

I heard that DB was indeed inept here, had basic deadlines and thresholds to meet, and failed miserably. So not all blame is for Metrolinx here, as much as I love that to be the case.

Your understanding is incorrect.

DB's expertise was only on the operations side, where they would provide the brains to Aecom's (and others) brawn.

And it is this side of the contract that has been terminated. Alstom has been awarded an ongoing contract for the continued operations and maintenance of GO.

But OnXpress is still in charge of the infrastructure work, and they have already been hard at it for a couple of years now. This portion does not appear to be going anywhere.

I have a friend who is at Metrolinx and involved quite prominently at the infrastructure side of GO Expansion and he confirmed that the termination of the O&M contract has zero impact on his project…

International Rail Journal was able to get Metrolinx to provide some clarification about "setting aside" the O&M contract.

"While our partnership with ONxpress Operations has come to an end, our GO Expansion work is proceeding," Metrolinx told IRJ. "The development phase for GO Expansion was completed in December 2024, with early construction works underway, as well as in-corridor works along the Kitchener corridor."

The article includes this scope statement for GO Expansion <This comprehensive upgrade of the Toronto commuter network includes electrification, resignalling with ETCS Level 1, new electric locomotives and refurbishment of GO Transit’s fleet of double-deck coaches.> although not as a direct Metrolinx quote. Within ONxpress design and construction, Alstom is responsible for the design and construction of railway systems, which would include signalling and electrification.

This is reassuring but it's weird that we're not hearing it directly from Metrolinx.
