So anything that's being refurbished now will be getting utilized to the max. Even those diesel locomotives that they bought second hand will be utilized to the max.

GO’s fleet is in remarkably good condition - State of Good Repair is one area where ML performs at or above the norm.

In the context of transit and rail discussions, it is usually a symptom of an enthusiast mindset as opposed to spectating about the actual decision factors and constraints and contexts that the people running real life systems have to work through.
Nothing wrong with being an enthusiast (I resemble that remark) - but the two discussions are different.

And even if they wanted to start the electrification process, wouldn't there be kits that bombardier has that could be retrofitted onto the fleet for electrification, save for the replacement of some of the older locomotives?

I think that was an initial concept, and in theory could be done. But like the UP Express DMUs, may be much harder and more expensive in practice.

Idk if it would be that expensive, Metrolinx is probably the only regional operator in North America that has the fleet size to get economies of scale from a conversion project.

if anything they could benefit from relatively easy conversion projects to make something like the NJT multilevel EMUs. they can probably engineer power cars to slot in between the existing coaches without needing to sell of everything. they would only need to get more cab cars to bookend.
this was what the original bilevel concept allowed for but was never further developed. maybe now we have a chance to do so.

Off the top of my head, I can’t seem to think of a manufacturer that offers a 9m/30’ electric bus right now. I guess there’s the medium duty offering from Arboc. I’m not sure if Karsan is still offering their Atak in North America. Actually, this might be BYD’s time to shine. Just remembered as I wrote this, they have a heavy duty 30’ model.

Possibly Chatham, Collingwood, and Cobourg. They’ve been given funds to study the electrification of their fleet. But it’s not yet known what kind of vehicles they will buy.

Oakville seems to only be purchasing 12m buses for conventional service and 6-8m buses for specialized and on-demand service.

The power cars would most definitely be new build. By conversion i meant converting from push pull to MU. It just seems such a no brainer but I'm surprised alstom was never asked to develop this even though they did it for tue MLVs
