Time to close a number of these crossing...................Another fool running the gates and lights

Lakeshore West passengers: Due to a vehicle coming in contact with one of our trains east of the Port Credit GO station you will experience delays and cancellations on your line this afternoon. Route 16 buses will take passengers to Port Credit then trains all stops to Aldershot. Eastbound trains from Aldershot GO will operate to Port credit and route 16 buses to Union. Passengers for Exhibition, Mimico and Long Branch GO stations may use their fare media on the TTC. We will inform you when more information is available.

They need to figure out how to make transfers free at Downsview Park for anyone disembarking at York University. That was what was supposed to happen, and would remove one of the major objections to closing the York University GO station.

With Metrolinx announcing it's ending the funding for TTC to provide the $1.50 discount for those transferring to TTC from GO - then this seems even less likely, especially with all the Conservatives budget cuts to Metrolinx.

In theory this would be revenue neutral. Instead of passengers disembarking at York University GO station, they ride down to Downsview Park, transfer to the subway, and ride back to York University TTC station. The passengers aren't paying a TTC fare right now, so there's no lost revenue there, and the trains are already running (and with plenty of space). You could charge passengers a TTC fare to transfer at Downsview Park and then reimburse if they disembark at York University, but right now the PRESTO system and the infrastructure isn't capable of this. It should be easy enough to implement (this isn't entirely dissimilar to how GO functions) but nothing is ever actually easy with PRESTO.

TTC was planning at one point on requiring exit taps, but they can't actually do that until every single customer has something to tap with. Presto ticket sales at every station get a step closer to eliminating old fare media.

Exit taps and fare gates at a few popular POP connection locations (Spadina, Bathurst, and Queens Quay) would go a long way toward reducing fare fraud levels too.

Seriously, implement free tap-out at readers at the gates at York U for transferring GO passengers from Downsview Park and Hwy 407 Stns. (and YRT and Zum, but I won’t go there now).
I find it hard to believe that we’re still bickering over such small stuff in a region of close to 6 million. It just shows how incompetent our elected officials really are.
Implement a zone system for travel on the TTC and GO, like the majority of the rest of the world has.
I really miss taking commuter trains in Stockholm and Helsinki, where your zone fare covers travel on either subway or train, or local bus and tram.

In the interim, they could install a temporary tap point (like the GO or UPX readers) outside the fare paid zone at York University TTC station where eligible riders could tap to be reimbursed. That's assuming the PRESTO system is capable of something like that, which I suspect it's not at the moment.

But, but, but...this exception could open a dangerous pandora box. Why should York U students get a free ride, and not UofT students that start their trip on a GO train? Honestly, the transfer at Downsview Park is $1.50. Students should suck it up, there's a cost to living far from the destination (York U).

GO can just change the fare zone pricing to be $1.50 when crossing from Downsview Park to York University. There may be a backlash at first, but when that dies down, they can remove the station altogether. Fare Integration 101! ?

I still think the York University station should be moved to Steeles and a stop with bus transfer be put up there.

Even close it now but grandfather it for RER, and only have the RER electric trains stop at it. Station spacing is not an issue for EMU's.

Because that would amount to a longer commute with a $1.50 fare hike on top of that for York U students arriving by GO train. UofT students are not at risk of any nearby stations closing. And it comes at zero cost to anyone and uses capacity that will likely never be used otherwise. In fact it's a net savings if that's what allows them to close the extra GO station. If similar opportunities existed to provide more efficient service at zero cost to UofT students, those should absolutely be considered as well.

you do realize that the York U GO station is located off campus, requiring a shuttle ride? How much longer do you think the subway trip will take?

Long over due and it needs to happen

It's 11 minutes after the GO train, that the shuttle arrives at York. With 4 minutes for the GO Train to travel to Downsview Park, that gives 7 minutes to walk into the subway station, down all the way to the platform, wait for a subway train that only comes (in AM peak) every 5 minutes, take the subway 2 stops (about 4 minutes), and come all the way up out of the station. There's no way the extra GO ride and subway is faster. If you just miss a subway train, you could still be at Downsview Park getting on your suwbay train, when the shuttle bus is already finished.
