I've shown a lot of Hamilton neighbourhoods, but I rarely venture onto "the mountain".
Concession Street is Hamilton Mountain's oldest commercial district. The Concession
Street area features many eclectic shops, Henderson Hospital and a major cancer
centre, as well as some nice homes and condos overlooking the mountain brow. I've
also thrown in the odd obligatory view of the lower city.

Concession Street on HML Mountain-Not bad!

Flar: Again good HML pics! I would like to know if the communities atop the Mountain are more affluent then those below. That HPD VW Bug is certainly more then Geek Squad material! Now THAT was neat! The more I see of HML the more I would like to visit sometime down the pike...LI MIKE

Most people would immediately say "yes" the mountain is wealthier than the lower city, but it's probably not that black and white. The mountain is newer, the lower city has most of the poverty. But the mountain isn't really super affluent, it's middle and working class for the most part. There are some nice homes along the mountain brow and a bit on the west mountain. The lower city has Westdale, Dundas, Durand and Kirkendall, which are all more affluent than any part of Hamilton Mountain except Ancaster, which is the most affluent part of Hamilton. So with the exception of Ancaster, Hamilton above the mountain isn't full of rich people compared to the lower city, it just doesn't have as much visible poverty.

The single storey stores aren't very exciting, and so this clearly isn't downtown. It appears cleaner, though. The slogan "where neighbours meet" is good one as it suggests a pedestrian environment while promoting community (of course, it's good for the business too).

Flar: How about a photo tour of Ancaster?

Flar: Thanks for that reply-I am now interested in Hamilton info as was posted. I would like to see you do a photo tour of Ancaster-if it is anything like Durand-which was amazing-I will find quite interesting. I am definitely a fan of your photo work and postings. Thanks-LI MIKE
