I'm just going to have to join the majority and vote for more subways. Way more subways.

So many subways that NYC or Beijing become jealous.
 
- All-day electrified GO on every line.
- A TTC transfer counts for $2.75 off your GO fare.
- A cancelled GO ticket can be used as a TTC transfer.
- A GO pass is valid on the TTC.
 
property taxes should be assessed on a home's strain on city services due to its location, size, isolation, etc. instead of the property value. All rates should be equal across the region, collected by a regional authority, and dispensed according to the population of each municipality.

Its the best way to fight sprawl. Make them pay the real cost of low density development. If a city wants more of the property tax pie, they need smart growth.
 
Well I'll go out on a limb here and say...

Wouldn't it be great if we could plop Toronto as it is on top of Vancouver? Then we could get awesome weather, ski and golf in the same day, and also have an awesome vibrant, multicultural and happening city all in one.
So instead of six months of fog, plopped on top of Vancouver we'd get six months of really thick fog?
 
Privatise ALL services - encourage competition.

Public transport is so expensive & inefficient. We are the 3rd country that pays the most for cell phone services - WHAT?! I just got a mail from Rogers that they are charging some "fee" which I don't even now why it's necessary. All I know is pay up if you want to watch TV - WHAT?!

Um, Rogers IS a private company. So are our other major telcos, who are supposed to be in competition with each other. Their service sucks. In fact, the only major telco in Canada with somewhat competitive pricing is Sasktel - a crown corporation.

I know "Privatization" is en vogue after the garbage strike, but it's seriously not some magic cure-all that results in everything being cheaper and your taxes being lower.

And public transport is inefficient compared to what, exactly?
 
I am gratified that a lot of responses were directed toward our grossly inadequate subway system, as per my comment. But I like OttoSchloss' comedic response better than anyone else's: "Lighten up, gang". In fact, I like this a whole lot --

I'd make the Allen Rd. starting from the 407 and finished all the way to downtown and make it underground past Eglinton.

I'd make the 407 to be open access.

I'd make the Sheppard line connect all the way to Keele on the west and the Town Center to the east.

I'd make all the roads in the Martin Groove area straight instead of as confusing as it now.

I'd make the Toronto bus terminal connected with the Union station and make our Go Transit more like electrified city rail than whatever it is now and double the frequencies.

I'd build a direct link from Pearson to Yorkdale and then run beside the Allen road (which would then be connected underground all the way downtown) stopping at Eglinton, whatever the bloor line connection is, Union station and finally the Island Airport.

I'd like to relocate the Island Airport further into the lake and expand it as to allow service of small jets. This will hopefully divert more regional frequent air traffic closer to the center of Toronto and cut travel time for passangers.

I'd like to see Miller stay on as Mayor and I'd like for people to see him for the genius as he is. No sarcasm intended.

And finally I'd like to see the Federal government that rules over Toronto to be governed by the Liberal Party, or maybe even the NDP.



I'm not greedy. But I would lastly like to consider what I've said above to be ONE thing.

Replace the red exit signs

I think the second image means that if you get bits of all your arms and legs chopped off you could end up in a box.
 
Allow casinos to open up in the city. I think its embaressing that we don't have any. Plus you'd have a lot of money to do a lot of things listed in this thread.
 
If you could change one thing about Toronto, what would it be?

Replace David Miller as Mayor and get rid of (majority of) the current Councillors who are useless ... to build a good City leadership is crucial, and there's none right now in Toronto ~ :mad:
 
International Exit Sign

The green signs with a person running out a door are a standard used in more countries than the red signs. There is something to be said about standard pictographs and signs, especially when you expect people to react to them in an emergency. We are taught red means stop or do not enter, fires burn red, orange, and yellow, it makes more sense to run towards green (or even blue to escape heat) than towards a red sign.
