I'd take exception to the heading. Jarvis is a very interesting street from Queens Quay on up. It has a wonderful mix of styles that go back 130 years to works in progress along with one of downtown's great parks, Allen Gardens. There are some mistakes to be sure, but it's a fascinating street with plenty of history, if you can get past the traffic noise and freeway-like conditions.

I also have an affinity for Jarvis and I enjoy strolling on it, especially north of Gerrard. I'm disappointed the city went with bike lanes instead of a centre median with attractive landscaping.

I don't think Jarvis is very attractive. A mish-mash of buildings that don't work well together at all. South of Adelaide is nice and the north end is improving but the middle sucks.

I agree androiduk... the centre median would have been a major plus for this underwhelming street.

I thought that wider sidewalks were sacrificed for the bike lanes, not the proposed centre median. The centre median would come later, as part of the revitalization project, if it is ever fully funded (and not cancelled by the current administration). But my memory might be putting a positive spin on things.

denser, then

I guess anything's possible if some people actually like Jarvis. Maybe we could all agree that the depth of field compression in the photo gives Jarvis a dense, urban feel and energy that are the opposite of reality. The photo is a complete distortion.

I live on Jarvis Street. I am very familiar with that traffic congestion. So much so, I barely drive any more.

Jarvis isn't pretty, but it's definitely fascinating. It also has a great mix of architectural styles, and many stunning 19th century mansions. With some proper landscaping, improved sidewalks and paving, and some street furniture it'd look great. Though, that can be said about a lot of streets in Toronto.
