So this means driving up 97th Street to Jasper Avenue you will see the Harbin Gate first ... before seeing the Berlin Wall Convention Centre. That is a good thing.

even though they are working hard on this now, I figure we are one snow storm away to having his completed next year.

I worry about the maintenance of our urban design projects due to things such as this. Spend millions on a new look, do a tie-in over 2 years ago and it still looks like this and down the street...that.
On RHW it took more than a year to replace this pole, a different pole than the others and the quality of the install was, well...

It looks like utility repairs. I realize they have to be done, but it's followed by a poor patch job with asphalt.

That's expected but they do not return to repair it properly and so it makes our 'new' Main Street look like crap, again.
How this isn't on a few desks and people's radar continues to baffle me and points to a very real problem.

The Paris version of Jasper Avenue, haha, the Champs-Elysees is getting reimagined as well.
Paris elected a new socialist mayor in 2016 and the city is undergoing significant transformation to a greener city.
Their makeover of the famous 1.9km street is costing $309m (u.s dollars) and car traffic is being cut in half from 8 lanes to 4 lanes with wider pedestrian and tree spaces as well as bike lanes.
Paris wants to be one of the greenest cities in the world - it has a ways to go - and is investing heavily into active transportation.
In April, the city unveiled plans to install up to 650km of temporary and permanent bicycle lanes as part of its Plan Vélo scheme, which aims to make every street in the city cycle-friendly by 2024.
I have a feeling Champs-Elysees will be completed before Jasper Ave project, although it is not expected to be done before 2024 Olympics.
Here is before/after pics for comparison to our project.

Love this project. We need to be bolder and more aggressive like this. Vision and actual progress on climate goals. Whyte ave needs to become pedestrianized asap. Jasper could be half the size once VLW is finished.
As we leave the suburb to DT commute model of cities, we need to start thinking more about districts/neighbourhoods. Whyte become pedestrianized is only bad those those using it as a thoroughfare. Most locals would love it or at the very least be able to easily adapt to it.

We simply don't have the density, need or demand for it right now.
Do I support making the area including portions of it more pedestrianized like we have been seeing? Absolutely.
