The escalator in De Boer's is definitely not the clunky and scary old one they used to have in the Eatons discount store where the Eaton Centre now is. I assume it was destroyed when the building was demolished.

I was clambering about the north Yonge line stations yesterday evening (photos coming in the next week) and I counted the steps beside the two long escalators I ran into: 74 at the Ranleigh Road exit from Lawrence, and 76 from the Old York Mills Rd exit at York Mills.

I didn't have anything with me to measure the rise in the steps there, so I cannot estimate the total change in elevation.

Can't you just measure things in shoe lengths or comb lengths or bowtie lengths and translate them to real measure later?

I suppose if I'd had some chalk with me I could have marked how far up my shoe each rise was, BB. And I didn't have on my person any other practical-in-public measuring device of similar length...

I suspected the York Mills escalator was longer...but does the 74 steps for Lawrence include the additional steps to get from the mezzanine to the street?
