I'm trying to look for a Point & Shoot camera that takes good quality photos during the day and the night. I know that sensor sizes matter when I read a little brochure my work colleague gave me. At least 4x zoom is needed

I'm looking at the following right now.

Canon S95 (Scared to get because of the common Lens Error, even after casual use)
Panny LX5 (Cheapest of the bunch and has a slightly larger sensor than the S95)
Canon G12 (Most expensive of the bunch..)

Any other P&S with a comparable 1/1.7" sensor? Thanks

The main reason for buying this camera is for vacation and travel use, and Then and Now purposes (glares at Mustapha)

You should also consider Olympus XZ-1 and Samsung TL500.

I think G12 and TL500 could be the best because of the tilt/swivel LCD.

On the other hand, XZ-1 and TL500 have the bright lenses. TL500 doesn't have as much zoom though.

LX5 has a slightly larger sensor only because it is oversized to crop to 3 different aspect ratios (4:3, 3:2, 16:9). After cropping, it is the same size. Having 3 different ratios at max resolution is a great future though. None of the others have it.
