Actually, this "dated" home actually looks nicer than some of the sterile all white modern ones and paint or colour is one of the easiest things to change if you want (at the risk of stirring up the ghosts?).
However, I'm not a fan of all the wasted space in these high ceiling living areas. I have seen some modified to add livable second level space if needed or wanted which also can make it feel better and more cozy.
